Our office holds at least one general practice seminar each year.  Our seminars include guest speakers.  The goals of our seminars are to give our attorneys and panel attorneys an update on the current law, to give practical tips on the current practice in the district, to provide a forum where panel attorneys can network, and to answer questions from attorneys. Seating at our seminars is limited, therefore those who would like to attend must inform April Bunn promptly after receiving information on the seminar. Once our seating capacity is reached, individuals will be placed on the wait list and will be notified once seats become available. For more information, please email April Bunn.

Federal Criminal Practice Seminar - 2019

The Federal Public Defender’s Office of EDNC will host the Spring 2019 Federal Criminal Practice Seminar in Raleigh on Friday, April 12th, 2019, at the  North Carolina State Bar.  The North Carolina State Bar is located at 217 E. Edenton Street.  The seminar will run all day on the 12th.  We are still lining up speakers, getting materials together, and working to get the approved CLE hours from the NC State Bar.  An agenda, as well as topic materials, will be provided in the weeks prior to the seminar.  This seminar will include general CLE credit hours only.  There will not be any ethics or substance abuse/mental health CLE hours in this seminar.

If you will be able to attend this seminar, please complete the registration form and return it to me no later than March 8th, 2019.  The venue we are using has limited space, therefore we are held to a strict enrollment cap.  Please be advised that registration for this seminar is limited to persons who provide services pursuant to the Federal Criminal Justice Act (CJA). By registering for this event, you certify that: (1) you are on the Active or Training Panel in EDNC, (2) you are an Assistant Federal Public Defender or Paralegal in the Federal Public Defender’s Office in EDNC, or (3) you are a current Judicial Law Clerk in EDNC. A Wait List will be used for those who register as other participants or after the enrollment cap is reached.

The dates for the Fall Federal Criminal Practice Seminar are TBD.  This seminar is intended for CJA Panel members and selected court personnel only.  In the unlikely event that space remains available prior to the deminar dates, we will entertain registration from other interested parties.
